Downstairs Nursery - Adapting your living space for you and your baby.

Adapting your living space for you and your baby.

Newborn babies sleep, quite a lot. I really didn't want to be stuck upstairs in the day while my baby slept or be running up and down the stairs to constantly check that my little girl was ok. In all attempts to remain a human being (!) doing the washing, cooking, blogging as well as feeding, burping, cuddling, I have created a baby friendly downstairs space to fit little Alba into our lives. My dear friend had a downstairs cot bed which she used for the baby to sleep during the day and I saw how well it worked for her. As Alba's nursery is really girly we took the opportunity to create a black and white space which worked nicely with our already painted mint walls. The wall colour is Farrow and Ball Pale Powder and we had already played with accents of copper and monochrome so just extended this theme. We added black and white play mats from Soft floor kids and a few monochrome toys such as this fun "Milk" bottle from The Milk Collective. living room

We then added a portable changing trolley from Ikea, and filled it to include everything you will ever need downstairs; muslins, nappies, wipes, cotton wool, melamine bowl for water, nappy sacks, organic baby creams and ofcourse spare baby grows for those all too common accidents!

In the corner we have our gorgeous Stokke Steps Bouncer which is one of my favourite buys. I believe in investing in good, multifunctional design and when it comes to that, it doesn't get much better than this. The bouncer can be used on the floor, but also mounts onto the Stokke Steps Chair so your baby can be at your level at the kitchen table. I always think it's a bit strange that babies are always on the floor, I love this ability to have them at your level. Furthermore at 6 months you can transform the Steps into their high chair for feeding and then use as a toddler stool from 3 years and beyond - genius!

To add the finishing touch when Alba was born and her name revealed (!) we hung this DIY OMM banner with her name above the cot which we absolutely love, it really completes the space!
